Armenia at the Crossroads

Veranstaltungsnummer: 285305als .ics herunterladen

Are we at a new geopolitical turning point in the South Caucasus? What role will Armenia play in the region’s evolving geopolitical landscape?
With its “Crossroads of Peace” project, Armenia aims to overcome its geographic and political isolation. Yet between long-standing conflicts, new U.S. initiatives such as the “Trump Route”, competing regional interests and Turkey’s pivotal role, opportunities and risks remain closely intertwined. This event will explore how Armenia can redefine its role in the South Caucasus - from establishing new trade and transit routes to forming new political and economic partnerships across and beyond the South Caucasus.
Each country in the region has its own agenda regarding transport and energy routes, trade chains, and political alliances. Meanwhile, alongside Russia, the United States is now seeking to strengthen its influence. The Trump-brokered preliminary peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, coupled with the announcement of the “Trump Route” through Armenia, has given rise to new geopolitical realities and uncer-tainties.

This discussion will explore how Armenia’s future role in the region could develop be-yond the immediate dynamics of the conflict and peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan. What impact could connectivity have on Armenia’s political and economic prospects? How might its “Crossroads of Peace” project interact with U.S. and EU strategies? What space remains for Turkey, Russia and Iran – and what strategic inter-ests does Europe, and Germany in particular, pursue in this evolving setting?

We would like to warmly invite you to the discussion "Armenia at the Crossroads".
The event will take place on September 8th from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM, followed by a reception, at the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, Hiroshimastr. 28, 10785 Berlin, conference room 2.
