Forum 2 | 27 stars and one common horizon: What structures are needed for strong European science and research?

Thursday, 24/06/2021, 10 am - 11.30 am

Science and research can only be strong and make the contribution expected from them in the great social challenges if they enjoy political support. The European Research Area and the European Higher Education Area together form the umbrella beneath which interconnected European science, European science excellence and investment in innovation and research are promoted. It is only recently and after intense debates that Horizon Europe, the new framework programme for research and innovation, has been agreed.

A successful European science policy also promotes cohesion within Europe and is an active tool in cohesion policy. At the same time, it should make active use of synergies between national science policies with their various difference strengths and areas of focus. In our workshop, we want to discuss what structures interconnected European science needs to meet the challenges of the coming decades.
