The war in Iran and its global consequences are currently dominating international attention. Lebanon has also become part of the conflict – with devastating consequences for the civilian population.
The political, social, and humanitarian effects of the escalation are dramatic. Israel's ongoing military operations have affected large parts of the country, destroyed infrastructure, and forced around a quarter of the population to flee. In a country that has already been marked by a deep economic and institutional crisis for years, the war is exacerbating the humanitarian situation to an unbearable degree.
At the same time, the Lebanese state faces a fundamental political dilemma. While international expectations are focused on the disarmament of Hezbollah, the ongoing military attacks from Israel weaken already fragile state structures and exacerbate political tensions in the country.
- What are the consequences of this escalation for society and the state in Lebanon?
- What scenario can be expected?
- How can a meaningful support to Lebanon be provided in this humanitarian crisis?
To discuss these questions with Robert Chatterjee (zenith) as host, we would like to invite you on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 at 6:00 PM.
