It took a pandemic to see that care is fundamental for the well-being of individuals and societies. Still, both paid and unpaid care work remain undervalued. This Policy Brief analyses the underlying reasons and the current state of care systems in Europe. Dr. Barbara Helfferich makes a case for a new, people-centre Europe and offers a 10 Point Action Plan to correct the current shortcomings of the European care economy and achieve meaningful change.
