der Deutsche Bundestag hat am 24. Juni 2022 die Abschaffung der Strafbarkeit von Werbung für Schwangerschaftsabbrüche beschlossen. Das kann aus geschlechterpolitischer Sicht als Erfolg gewertet werden, wenngleich der Beschluss Stigmatisierung und weiterhin wachsende Hürden bei der praktischen Durchführung des Eingriffs nicht beseitigen kann. Auf der anderen Seite des Atlantiks hat das Oberste Gericht in den USA am gleichen Tag das bis dahin geltende Recht für Frauen, Abtreibungen vornehmen zu lassen, abgeschafft. Ihrer reproduktiven Selbstbestimmung so beraubt, ist nun damit zu rechnen, dass sich viele Frauen in illegale und bedrohliche Situationen begeben müssen.
Und auch in Deutschland ist die politische Umsetzung der Abschaffung des §219a StGB durch massive öffentliche und mediale Gegenwehr begleitet worden. Bekennende Abtreibungsgegner_innen haben dabei zur Durchsetzung ihrer Weltanschauung auch den Schulterschluss mit rechtsextremen Antifeminist_innen und Verschwörungsideolog_innen nicht gescheut. International können wir beobachten, dass die Schlagkraft antifeministischer Organisationen zunimmt, sie sind über Nationengrenzen hinweg bestens vernetzt und suchen die Nähe zu den Parlamenten. Sie sammeln sich in rechtspopulistischen und rechtskonservativen Parteien, im Lager christlicher Abtreibungsgegner_innen, in Männerrechtsbewegungen und in misogynen Internetforen. Sie stellen politische Mehrheiten und Regierungen.
Wir möchten mit der US-amerikanischen Soziologin Cynthia Miller-Idriss, der Bundestagsabgeordneten Leni Breymaier, der polnischen Frauenrechtlerin Kamila Ferenc und Ihnen über jüngste Entwicklungen antifeministischer Netzwerke in Europa und den USA und ihre Verbindung zur deutschen Debatte um den Abtreibungsparagrafen 219a diskutieren. Wie ist es möglich, dass in Demokratien mit fest verankerten Gleichstellungsgrundsätzen politische Bewegungen erfolgreich sind, die durch sexistisches und frauenfeindliches Verhalten, hypermaskuline Performance und antifeministische Politik auffallen?

Antifeminism Beyond Borders. How self-determination provokes the world.

On June 24, 2022, the German parliament, the Bundestag, decided to abolish the punishment of advertising for abortions. From a gender policy perspective, this can be considered a success, although the decision cannot eliminate stigmatization and still growing hurdles in the practical implementation of the procedure. On the same day on the other side of the Atlantic, the U.S. Supreme Court eliminated women rights for abortions. Deprived of their reproductive self-determination through this court verdict, many women are now likely to find themselves in illegal and threatening situations.
In Germany, too, the political implementation of the abolition of §219a StGB has been accompanied by massive public and media opposition. Proclaimed opponents of abortion have not shied away from closing ranks with right-wing anti-feminists and conspiracy ideologists in order to support their worldview and ideology. Internationally, we can observe that the clout of anti-feminist organizations is increasing; they are very well connected and networked across borders and seek proximity to parliaments. They gather in right-wing populist and right-wing conservative parties, in the camp of Christian anti-abortionists, in men's rights movements and in misogynist Internet forums. They form political majorities and governments.
Together with Cynthia Miller-Idriss, an US-American sociologist, Leni Breymaier, a member of the German Bundestag, Kamila Ferenc, a Polish women's rights activist and together with you we would like to discuss recent developments of anti-feminist networks in Europe and the USA and their connection to the German debate about the abortion paragraph 219a. How is it possible that in democracies with firmly established principles of equality, political movements are successful that attract attention through sexist and misogynistic behavior, hypermasculine performance, and anti-feminist politics?
