Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
“How can we foster cooperative security in times of increasing confrontation?” This is the core question of this year’s Tiergarten-Conference, which FES will host from 16-18 September.
In our panel discussion “Challenges for Collective Security in the Context of the African Peace and Security Architecture” we will discuss this question with Christoph Matschie (Member of the German Bundestag, Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Chairman of the discussion group on Africa of the SPD parliamentary group), Michelle Ndiaye (Special Representative of the Chairperson of the AU Commission to the DRC), Abdi Aynte (Former Minister of Planning and International Cooperation of Somalia, Executive Director of the Heritage Institute for Policy Studies) and Prof. Dr. Ulf Engel (Professor of “Politics in Africa” at the Institute of African Studies in Leipzig). The panel will be moderated by Ulrich Thum (Desk Officer Eastern Africa/Peace and Security, FES Berlin) and Philipp M. Goldberg (Director, FES Peace and Security Competence Centre in Dakar, Senegal). It will be held on 18 September 2020, 10:00-11:30 a.m. (CEST). The discussion on the panel will be in English; an interpretation to German and French will be available.
The complete program and schedule of the Tiergarten-Conference with additional resources and background information is available at: https://www.fes.de/iez/tiergartenkonferenz. All panel discussions will be organized as online-events.
