Seeking a Just Society...  50 Jahre after Rawls „A Theory of Justice“

What is a just society? And how do we achieve it? These issues are on many people’s minds, especially in the context of the Bundestag elections. When seeking a just society it makes sense to take a look at political philosophy. Some 50 years ago the philosopher John Rawls achieved a major success with his book A Theory of Justice. It shook up political philosophy and continues to resonate today. His main aim was to reconciliate freedom and equality. Still today, Rawls theory is widely discussed in political philosophy and practice and opinions differ regarding its practical impact. But the question of what justice is and how it can be achieved still animates both advocates and critics of Rawls’ theory.

What can Rawls tell us about coping with issues of justice today? What kind of economic and social system is appropriate to a just society? Are meritocratic attitudes toward success an obstacle to a just society? What does justice mean in the digital sphere? How can (global) climate justice be achieved?
