hanged in August 2020. After the falsified elections the largest wave of p
rotests in modern Belarusian history started. The protesters were convince
d that Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya gained a majority of the votes. They deman
ded free and fair elections and the resignation of Aliaksandr Lukashenka.
The regime responded with unprecedented repressions which are still ongoin
g four years later. Tsikhanouskaya lives in forced exile in Lithuania. But
she has not stopped working for a democratic Belarus.
The movie “The Accidental President” shows the personal and political life
of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya. It is an impressive portrait of a woman who o
nly decided to run after her husband was imprisoned and (almost) accidenta
lly became the face of a new Belarus.
Starting at 7:30 PM The scree
ning will be followed by a short discussion and a Q&A in english with the
directors and prominent representatives of the Belarusian democracy moveme
nt and ends at 10 PM
