The GLU is an exciting and innovative postgraduate programme designed to equip and engage trade unionists more effectively to tackle the challenges of globalization.
It offers unionists and labour activists formal post-graduate Honours and Masters Qualifications through the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa.
It is a fulltime coursework and research study programme located in the Sociology Department (part time studies only available to students based in Gauteng, South Africa, with strong motivation).
Entry Requirements
For Honours:
BA Degree
At least 3 years union/Labour Support Organisation experience
Letter of Support from Union / Labour Support Organisation
Letter of Motivation from candidate
CV
Marks in previous studies should be at least 60% average
Formal, written commitment to return to unions/Labour
Support Organisations for at least 2 years after completion
For Masters:
BA Honours Degree
7 years plus union / Labour Support Organisation experience
Research or Policy Experience in the Union / Labour Support Organisation
Letter of Support from Union / Labour Support Organisation
CV
Sample of Written Work
Marks in previous studies should be at least 65% average
Research Proposal (Max 5 pages)
Formal, written commitment to return to unions/ Labour
Support Organisation for at least 2 years after completion
