ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly

The ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly (JPA) is founded by Article 17 of the Cotonou Agreement. It is composed of an equal number of elected representatives from the European Parliament on the one hand and the ACP national Parliaments on the other hand. Its plenary sessions take place twice a year. Among its major duties are the promotion of the democratic process, the reinforcement of mutual understanding, the discussion of issues pertaining to development and ACP-EU Partnership, the adoption of resolutions as well as giving recommendations to the Council of Ministers. The JPA plays a major role in the dialogue with non-state actors.
