Hongkong Ministerial of the Doha Round of Multilateral Trade Negotiations: Achieving a low-level Equilibrium
by Dilip K. Das, February 2006. This paper sheds light on what transpired during the Hong Kong Ministerial Conference, its achievements and lack of it. It also monitors the multilateral trade negotiations (MTNs) in the Doha Round and examines the state of play in the major areas of MTNs - including agriculture, NAMA, services, and development - and plausible achievements in the key segments. It concludes that the Hong Kong Ministerial aimed at a low-level equilibrium. Few bold decisions were attempted. Many long-awaiting decisions in important areas of MTNs were put off for the future.

Our Common Interest - Report of the Commission for Africa
This report, published in March 2005, is an in-depth study of the actual African situation. Starting point is the recognition that rich countries should support African development but above all that Africa must drive its development on its own. The report is divided into two parts. The first, The Argument, contains recommendations and sets out a call to action. The second, The Analysis and Evidence, lays out the substance and basis of the recommendations. This comprises a careful study of different fields such as the causes of poverty, culture, governance, peace and security, trade, capacity-building and financial resources. The results and recommendations are based on extensive consultations - inside and outside Africa - with governments, civil society, the academic world as well as the public and private sector.
