Objectives

The Cotonou Agreement has been concluded in order to promote and expedite the economic, cultural and social development of the ACP Stats, with a view to contributing to peace and security and to promoting a stable and democratic political environment.

The fundamental objectives of the Cotonou Agreement are:

  • 1. The reduction and ultimately the eradication of poverty.
  • 2. Sustainable development.
  • 3. The gradual integration of the ACP countries into the world economy.

These objectives shall inform all development strategies and shall be tackled through an integrated approach taking account at the same time of the political, economic, social, cultural and environmental aspects of development.
